I heard on the news today that the local council want to put up the council tax by at least £40.00p a year???!!!  The reason is that they want another big shop to come to Corby!!??  Has this world gone mad?? If people havn't got jobs, then how in hells name are they going to pay their council tax, and will they be able to afford to shop there?????  Also, they are going to put up the cost of paying a baliff from £30.00p to £90.00p. If you have to have a baliff come to your house then it is pretty obvious to me that you havn't got the funds to pay the £90.00p??!!  All this will do is create more paperwork and more court cases!!!!!!  Do you believe they actually think these things out before slapping charges on everything????????????????????

I think the shops in Corby are just great as they are Jan, what else could they possibly want and more to the point, where are they going to put another "big" shop ??

I think the bailiff charges, along with the other legal costs they have announced they are going to increase, are just another tax , by another name ! This government just doesn't know when to call it a day do they ???  Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad

This administration has totally lost the plot. It's floundering around like a fish out of water, and doesn't know what to do next to raise even more taxes from an already taxed-out population.

Be aware that the longer they stay in office the more devious and underhand ways to raise more Revenue, we will suffer.

I don't know why we have a government.  Look at the mess it has got us into, and again I don't know why we have a budget, as the prices are constantly changing along with everything else.

Janowl, the whole Economy is in a total mess! I read a lot of Financial Websites and keep myself fully informed, and, to be honest, I am scared.

I am scared of just what the future may hold for all of us.

I was only reading today about this poor chap who was working as an IT Projects Manager earning £50k a year.
Now, he's reduced to £240 per month JSA, and, he has a Family and a mortgage to keep!

What the hell are people supposed to do next?

Exactly.  I feel we have no way of correcting this! It seems to have been taken out of our hands! x

Brown the Clown blames America, then he blames the Banks, then he even blames us, the people, because we have got ourselves relying on Credit too much.

So, what makes him think that he is any different, encouraging us to go out and spend money, money that many of us do not have.

If people are heavily in debt, then what is the use to go and spend more on our Plastic?

The VAT cut was done for one reason only. Brown hoped that it would make people start buying again.  It didn't, and now, quite frankly he is at a loss as to what to do next.

Whatever James Gordon Brown's bank balance is, Janowl, it's got to be far more than probably you or I will ever see in our lifetimes. Plus, don't forget his "Gold-Plated" Pension when he leaves Office. Rolling Eyes

Jackie, I'm in a similar situation to yourself. I am in receipt of Pension Credit, and I have had to use what little savings I had to pay my electricity last week.

I had a letter from my Supplier (Scottish & Southern) to "tell" me that they intended to put my Direct Debit up from £25 per month to £67 per month because I owed a small amount from the last bill.

We finally agreed that they could raise my DD by a fiver, and I paid the outstanding bill using my Plastic.

I did not want to use my CC for this sort of thing, but had very little option.

All they want these days is your money!

As you can image, my wages is not good, but I had nearly £100 pounds taken out in tax this month, and the tax office had the cheek to inform me last year that I owed THEM £300??!!
