Giant Mosque Funded by Taxpayers

Don't know if you have heard about this but Ken Livingstone is planning to use tax payer's money to build an enormous mosque costing an estimated 100M in the docklands. What do you think about it?

Wouldn't it be better to spend the money on a new hospital or improved transport facilities??

BIGGER THAN ST PAULS!!! The plan is for the mosque to be so big that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will it see it as the biggest landmark in London , bigger than St Pauls, Westminster Abbey or Wembley Stadium!!!!!!

Take a second to sign the petition!!!

Thanks for the link to the petition site Sylvia, I will certainly put my Moniker on that one !

I'm not sure about the mosque being the biggest visible landmark in London though, surely that honour will be reserved for Red Kens ego won't it ?

I have signed the petition also and took part in a vote on the grumpy old sods website.

If they want a big mosque built they they should raise the funds for it themselves not expect the british taxpayer to foot the bill.

I tottaly agree with Sylvia on this one, the money that is intended for this mosque would be better spent on the NHS or the transport system.

And they can jump up and down and burn the british flag all they want, if they don't like it go to another country.

Hi Sylvia

Actually the website is: www.grumpyoldsod.com , And on there you can have a moan about anything i think.

Admin is already well into it and is already causing controversy in the grumpy old sods guest book Smile .

But then again she likes to do that sort of thing anyway. Laughing .

Us? Old?. Naw, we're just maturing nicely like a good Scotch Whisky or a Vintage Port, or a nice mature piece of Stilton! Laughing
Some of us are also growing old disgracefully as well. I mean to say, OAP's on ASBO's? Whatever Next?
Shocking, that's what it is, shocking! Shocked Laughing

Hi Admin,

I found that programme we saw on TV about OAP's on ASBO's really funny Laughing.

I mean it's not something you really expect, you hear a lot about the youngsters getting them and that seems commonplace these days.

But some of those OAP's are more of a tearaway than the youngsters are!!! Laughing.

On occasion i couldn't stop laughing.

Government response to petition 'ScrapMegaMosque'
The e–petition asking the Prime Minister to ‘Abolish plans to build a £100 million mega Mosque’ is still ongoing. This is a response from the Government in advance of the closing date.

Under planning legislation, local planning authorities are responsible for the day to day control of development in their area. In doing so they are required to take into account all material considerations including the views of interested persons and particularly local communities.

With respect to the proposal associated with a site near the Olympic development in Newham, we understand from Newham Council that there is no current planning permission or application for a mosque and Newham Council do not expect a planning application in the near future.

The Government believes that where controversial issues such as this arise, all involved should ensure that discussions are conducted in a manner that respects the views of all sections of our communities and in a way that does not raise tensions in local areas.
