hi folks,
i am another new boy on the block after finding this board via another site. pleased to see it and look forward to many chats between us and on many subjects.
Sorry I haven't been on the Forum of late. This was due to some minor problems with my computer and my very good friend the PC Doctor, has now sorted them out. Then there was a technical hitch and I couldn't get logged back onto the Silver Surfers Forum and this time Admin came to my rescue. Thanks Admin, I am up and running again. I bet you all thought I had left the Forum, No Way!

Speak to you all very soon.
Sylvia
to be honest, i thought you might be on your hols and getting all the sun watching those commonwealth games and decided to stay that bit longer?
It's good to be back again. I missed all of you and I couldn't even get access to any of your stories either.
My computer plays a very important part in my life and when I discovered it was acting rather strangely, I asked Louise (PC Doctor) to take a look at it for me. Louise is very good with building computers and what makes them function. I know she would help you out too, if you should need it, just let Admin know.
I left my sickly computer with Louise for a few days and boy, I missed it as much as Ken and Admin miss their cigs. My computer is just like an addiction to me, but I do not profess to knowing it all where computers are concerned. I go to computer classes at the Adult Education Centre once a week to try to learn about the applications. i.e. Word Processing, Data Bases, Spreadsheets, Powerpoint etc.
Anyway Brian, I'll travel far on my paltry weekly benefits, but I can dream on. However, I would like to convey my thanks to Admin, Ken and Brian for the warm welcome back, it's appreciated!
hi sylvia and glad you have the same sense of humour as me. i know only too well about benefits as i have been on them for four years and it is a pittance to try living on, let alone go anywhere. if i didn't have free passes for the railway, i could never afford rail travel at todays prices. it is like petrol to me and where i am, we need a car because to see my dad 23 miles away, public transport is one massive no. we wold have to meet at the other point of a triangle, if you get my meaning, which i am sure you will.
anyway, great to see you back on here and like you, i am addicted to my computer. speak soon i hope.
I know exactly what you mean Sylvia, I probably know the least about computers of anybody currently on this forum. Last August, mine caught a cold and went off to a very knowledgeable friend for a quick overhaul, I was lost for the days it was away ! It turned out to have a major fault and I ended up losing it for nearly 3 weeks !!!! I was tearing my hair out by the it got back to me
Anyway, I'm always eager to learn new things where computers are concerned and I noticed this advert in the Sunday paper yesterday. It says:
Computers made easy for Senior Citizens. Master your Computer in two hours, on a 3 month trial. I may return it at any time within 3 months for a full refund

Now, to my way of thinking, this may well be the book that I need to help me improve my computer skills. I may visit their website first to see what else they say about their products. I am glad to share this information with other members' of this forum, if they wish to take advantage of this product. Hope it helps, hope it helps me too!

Hello again.
Did you know that our Admin (Sandie) has many talents, one of which was a Disc Jockey on a local radio station? That was a few years back now, but I actually recorded one of the many radio programme's that Sandie hosted and she was extremely good at it - a natural. The studio was located in Basildon, Essex, known to it's local listeners as EASTGATE FM. Eastgate is the name of Basildon's Shopping Mall.
Sandie had an early morning slot from 3 to 6.30am and she didn't have a 'Play List' like the others' so she was free to play whatever she wanted. I liked her choice of music and would set my timer record button, so's not to miss Sandie's early morning show. I guess you could say, that our Admin knows a thing or two about music.
Just one little point, Sylvia, I was actually a 'Presenter' as opposed to a DJ.
My show, as you know, was a mixture of words and music, and I wasn't just merely 'spinning records'. Although I never had to use a 'Playlist', I did however take quite a while before I went on air to carefully theme the music for the programme, and to try to play suitable material for the time of night. Plus, the music had to be 'timed' to fit in with the News and Weather Reports, and towards the end of the programme any local traffic or travel news.
There is a lot more goes on behind the scenes in a radio studio than a lot of people realise. But, thank you for your kind words, and I'm so pleased you remember my shows fondly. (So do I, I enjoyed every minute!) _________________ http://sewardchronicles.ning.com/

is it based anywhere the locarno was? i used to go there to watch dave clark five three times a week. glad all over i did as well.
Wow, Brian, now your going back a bit to the days of the Basildon Locarno. Yes, I remember it well. What great times we had there, such a shame those venues close down and become something totally different. There's a large shoe shop immediately below where the Locarno once was and I'm not sure what the premises upstairs are being used for now, but I will endeavour to find out and let you know.
In answer to your question, the Eatgate came many years later and if you can remember Southenhay, where it met Clayhill Road, there used to be some open land there, it is now all built upon and become a Shopping Mall. So, in order to put things into perspective, the Locarno was to the West of the Town Centre and the Eastgate, (aptly named), because it was built to the East of the Town Centre initially, then they added another chunk on later, which now brings it towards the West near the Bus Terminal.
Basildon Town Centre has totally changed since the days of the Locarno, they have taken every bit of available space surrounding the Town and built shops upon it.
I lived in Basildon for a number of years in my hey day, but have since moved to Grays, which is ten miles away.
