After a gap of almost nine years, I have re-joined SKY again. Because I already have a dish in situ that was installed not long after I moved in, I bought a SKY/Freesat box from eBay and set it up. It picks up all the Free-to-Air channels beautifully,  which means that it is still in perfect working order, despite being stuck outside on a long(ish) pole to raise it above the roof line of the building.

So, all I needed to do was to phone SKY today and order a card with my chosen "packages" installed on it. The packages I have chosen are: News & Events, Knowledge, and Entertainment.

All for just £19 per month.
Very Happy

Joan, I had been considering getting SKY again for some while, and finding a neat modern Sky/Freesat box on eBay along with the fact that my original dish is still operating perfectly, well, why was I waiting?

Looking forward to being able to watch UK GOld again, as it is virtually the only channel that still shows those wonderful old British Sitcoms like "The Good Life" and "Only fools and horses"

Whilst we're on the subject of television, when are we ever going to get a weekly TV Guide that lists ALL of the Freeview, Freesat, and other channels that are now available to us?

Many good channels that I can, even now, receive (before getting my new Sky Card), like "Men and Motors" and "Films for Men" are not even listed in any of the publications I usually end up buying.

Does anyone know different? Is there a mag that lists every available channel now? Please let me know, and I will either see if I can buy it, or order it from my local Newsagent.

The main reason for asking is simply because I like to "plan" my weeks viewing as I "pick" my programmes carefully, and, with the exception of the three major "Soaps", do not like to watch "rubbish".
Confused

Sorry Sandie can't help you there, I am not a soap watcher either, hubby watches Coronation Street, but you can go without watching that for months then sit down and they are still showing the same story lines just with different people, I have found my Bt vision on demand good there are so many programs you can watch, plus loads of stuff I have taped it's good because it lets you tape the whole series.

I took Sky-on-line just over a month ago, it's a new online service, mainly so I could watch the US Open tennis. That meant I had to take the sports channels, I was thinking Tony would also get the football. I took two film channels for Tony and there was one variety channel which I think was Top-up TV.

The laptop I got with the Insurance money is an entertainment laptop, HD and Blueray. I thought if I kept it linked to the TV Tony could watch the films and also the football matches. No subscription just automatically renewed and the money taken out of the bank every month.

What a waste of money I've cancelled the Live TV. I can still watch some Sky catchup programmes for a small fee or buy some programmes, not that I'm likely to do that. I had considered having a Sky plus box but we don't think it's worth having Sky sports for the use we would get from it and the films will be on the other channels eventually.

Tony buys 'What's on TV' as his listings magazine and I thought all of Sky was listed on there but I don't use it myself so I couldn't be certain. I had a very good listings page with Sky on line.

Having rabbited on about all that I hope you enjoy your Sky viewing, Sandie. Laughing

When I returned home from hospital today, my new Sky card and contract had arrived. Reading through all the "small print" (there's quite a lot of it), I thought it pretty straightforward. It told me to leave the box on "standby" at all times, and once inserted, not to keep removing the card! (As if I would).  So, setting it all up, I tuned in to "Gold"....oh dear, a message flashed up onto the screen saying that the card wasn't "activated" and to contact the Service Provider. It showed the number to ring so I rang it. (Premium Rate, no doubt). On reaching a "human", I was then informed that I really required a telephone line plugged into my box. Otherwise, the only other way they could activate my card was to "send a strong signal" to my box. This would cost me a £25 "activation fee", repayable once I got a telephone landline connected to the box!

I chose to pay using my Credit Card, and as I don't really want a telephone link to my box. I shan't bother claiming the money back from them.

Honestly, I wasn't informed about this on Sunday on the phone, so, I feel rather ripped-off about it.

Anyway, however they did it, they "activated" the card, and soon I was sitting back with a nice cup of tea watching Classic Saloon car racing from Knockhill on the "Motors" channel.

Haven't had time to explore all the channels yet, but it now seems as if I have literally hundreds to choose from.

I have Virgin Cable at home, because there is no external Arial on my Flats, nor is there a dish available. So it's fibre optic cable for me, I get TV, phone and Broadband, all for just over £20.00 a Month, quite good value.!
There's catch up TV available on the box, plus all the normal freeview channels and others. I can also get BBC i Player on broadband, catch up on some programmes iv'e missed.

Thanks for the input Mike. I thought that I might as well bring back into use my dish and Sky set-up, so this is what I have now done. Very Happy

I realise that I am almost answering my own question here, but since I posted the bit about wanting to find a TV Guide that gives all the Channels, I think I have found what I was looking for, well, pretty well.

"What's On TV" also publish a "Sister" magazine which is called "TV & Satellite Week" which does show almost all the complete Digital Channels. It is £1.20 per issue (same as Radio Times), but it does publish virtually all of the Digital Listings that can be obtained on Cable, Freeview, Freesat, and SKY!!!
