Interesting little article in the Daily Express. Mind you, if this is true then this Forum should have literally thousands of Members. So where are they then????
Yes Sandie were are they all, mind you a lot of my friends do use the computer but would not join a forum, I don't know who they think they will meet or somehow they will steal their identity silly I know!! _________________
Joan, I do understand how they think.....up to a point.
I have been around computers since the early '80's and online since the early nineties. I have been a Member of many different forums and an Administrator of others. I have at least four websites of my own, including blogs, podcasts, and social networks.
On almost all of these I use my own name, not a "username", and I feel that if I have something that I need to say (and I frequently do), then I would rather put my own name to my work than hide behind a nom-de-plume.
As for having your identity nicked, well, that's a chance I'm prepared to take.
Sensible precautions should of course be taken, but a lot of the stories we read in the media about this happening, is greatly blown up and just becomes "paper talk."
I'm not, of course, saying that it doesn't happen, but if you take sensible precautions then I feel that there isn't too much to worry about online.
Just treat others the way that you would treat someone you met in person, a little warily at first, until you get to "know" them better.
