EVIL AT THE PUPPY FARM
206 dogs kept in filthy shed
By Victoria Bone
ANIMAL rescuers were appalled to find 206 dogs crammed in a windowless garden shed after a 73-year-old animal breeder died.
RESCUED: Puppies
The animals, mostly Yorkshire terriers, were in tiny boxes and caked in their own excrement and urine.
Six puppies were already dead when discovered by rescuers, who also found 39 cats at the property in Hurstpierpoint, West Sussex.
Lisa Gooch, of Brighton Animal Action, said: "The dogs were starving and thirsty. I've seen some awful things in my time, but that was the worst."
Animal charities were called in after breeder Elizabeth Stevens died.
Mid-Sussex District Council issued her with a breeder's licence, which expired in 1998. A spokesman said: "A licence is required if an establishment is used for breeding for commercial gain. Officers were satisfied that she did not fall into this category."
The Celia Hammond Animal Trust said: "If the lady had been alive, she would almost certainly have been prosecuted."

Had they taken her to court, I daresay that like a couple in a village near here last year and featured on television again just last week, they got a measley 35 DAYS each inside. They had 100's of dead and pathetic animals in their home. Since coming out of jail, they haven't been seen round here. I wonder why?

You really can't begin to imagine the conditions inside that shed, can you.
Why do people just treat animals as yet another 'commoddity' to be bought and sold without any thought for the poor creatures feelings and needs?
Don't tell me it just for the money, because what prospective pet owner would buy any dog from this type of establishment. Not a nice thing to say, but perhaps it's a good job she did die, at least it will give some of those poor dogs a chance now to live happier lives.

The RSPCA actually filmed the one near me and showed what they found on national television. The owners were living in the same house WITH the animals and under such appalling conditions, but blamed depression for the animals suffering. From what they showed on tv, it had been going on for years and only came to light when neighbours complained about the continuous smell.
