Recently we had a serious fire in a retail park just down the road from where I live.
Three shops were set alight, probably by young lads who were seen 'acting suspisously' nearby just before the fire broke out. Three shops were completely gutted by the blaze. Police seem to think the fire was caused when some wooden pallets at the rear of one of the shops were set alight. The flames quickly spread to a nearby rubbish container, engulfed that, and then took hold of the main buildings. Twelve fire appliences fought the blaze, and rescued many of the pet animals that were inside the petshop. But, they were unable to save a lot of the birds, and many suffocated in the smoke.
Honestly, I really hope the police can find the little b******ds who did it.
What a stupid and thoughtless thing to do.

Update from my local evening paper on that fire. It appears that no birds or animals died in the fire or due to it. Which is the good news. Apperently four lads were spotted just before the fire, and also this same little group had been setting rubbish bins on fire before this happened.
It really does look like a severe case of arson.
I took a walk down there in the sunshine this afternoon to view the damage for myself. One shop, (Buywise) is almost completely gutted, and the two each side of it, (Farmfoods and Pets at Home) have been severely damaged. There were workmen there up on a hoist removing roof tiles. All three shops look as if they won't be back in business for quite some time to come.

I hope they get the little b*****s and they throw the book at them but in this PC and human rights society age they will probably get a slap on the wrist and told NOT to do it again.
Pity they dont bring the birch back and mark their foreheads with the letter A for arsonist.

Maywalk, they did the worst possible thing when they stopped corporal punishment in schools. Yes, I did get the cane once, but I made sure I never got it again!
It hurt! But worse than the hurt was the humiliation I felt when I returned to my classroom. My Mother would also smack me across the back of my legs if I misbehaved, and it really stung, especcially in the cold weather.
When and if they catch these little scroats they'll probably give them 'Community Service' or something equally silly. Arson is a very serious crime, and the punishment should be made to fit the crime. But we all know it won't be, don't we?

You know it is soul destroying, our local RSPCA has had to close because it has been vandalised so many times. It was happening almost every week and animals which had been rescued were again in danger. Makes you lose the will to live.
