Bleak House.

Cool If you have been watching the BBC's dramatisation of the Charles Dickens novel over the past seven weeks, what did you think about it?
Having read a few of Dickens' novels in the past, Bleak House was one that I had never read, although possessing a copy. Watching it on T.V. has given me the incentive to start reading it now, and I'm finding it very enjoyable.
Dickens really was a Master Storyteller, and his charecters are some of the most memorable in English Literature. Who could ever forget Fagin (Oliver Twist), Bill Sykes, (Oliver Twist), and Scrooge (A Christmas Carol)?
Add to these Mr. Smallweed (Bleak House) and Mr. Tulkinghorne (Bleak House), and you have got a collection of Rogues and Villains that make the Kray Brothers seem like children.
Great stuff.

I didn't manage to catch the Bleak House series but saw an interesting modern day adaptation of another Dickens tale on Tv Sunday night. It was on BBC4, which I don't have, I watched it at a friends house. The story was a Dickens short story called The Signalman, starring Denholm Elliott, an unusual but highly watchable tale of the supernatural, very well told and filmed.
I shal certainly give some thought to obtaining and reading a Dickens story or two now, I've just never fancied it up 'til now, but there's a first time for everything.

Apologies all round again.... the above post is attributable to me, I just forgot to log in again ....Doh !!!

I know the 'Signalman' story well, and it's brilliant. I'd like to have seen it, but I also don't have BBC4 yet. I hope they put it on to BBC 1 or 2 soon.

i do apologise, but when i saw the title of this thread, i was thinking of the farm where tony martin lives and not too far from here. i have met this man and found out quite a bit that was not disclosed on bbc last week.

Tony Martin, in my view, should not have been jailed for what he did. He was only defending himself and his property, and he did it in a way that was available to him. He certainly could not have defended himself against two determined younger men, so he used rather drastic force with which to do it.
I know two wrongs do not make a right, but those two little toerags should not have been on his property in the first place, and the guy was only doing what, perhaps I would have done too, if someone threatened me or my property.

Returning to "Bleak House" above.. I see it did well at the BAFTAs. Quite rightly so in my opinion. Didn't miss and episode, (nor the repeats.)

Psst I pride myself on the similarities of Tulkinghorne's character, to mine!

Personally I think I'm more akin to 'Mr. Smallweed!'... Laughing

I watched every episode of Bleak House and loved it. I watch very little tv but the BBC are special when it comes to classics. My favourite Dickens books are 'Hard Times' and 'Dombey & Son'

Nice to meet you Frank. I joined yesterday. Very Happy
