BT plans to axe 5000 more jobs.BT is expected to axe thousands more jobs next month as it books £1 billion of writedowns after the turmoil in its troubled IT services unit.
Analysts believe that the telecoms giant is planning to cut up to 5,000 jobs in addition to the 10,000 already announced. Trade unions, which have been in talks with the company over the past few weeks, fear that compulsory redundancies are now on the cards.
Although BT has sought to avoid that, the unions say the scale of the cutbacks and the dire jobs market has left the prospect increasingly likely. Such a move, they warn, would trigger industrial action.
