I found the right thread at last ( too many to choose from) LOL.
I posted on 'money' when I first joined
Now that I am getting a retirement pension, my likelihood of claiming anything from anywhere is dwindling by the day. Having had 6 weeks off work, I find my company don't pay statutory sick pay. So I have tried to claim incapacity benefit and the day before my 60h birthday, that stopped??!! Having tried several others, and also my bank where I have an additions account, which is platignum, I find they can't help either. The trouble is in a ouple of months I will be havng another 6 weeks off, because it will be the school summer holidays, and I don't get paid for what I don't work. If this is being 'old, and if this is how the country treat you, then i don't want to know. All my working life I have paid my taxes and national insurance, and get treated like this. Sorry to moan, but it makes me cross. I don't like getting old at the best of times.

Yes, Jan, Incapacity benefit stops the day you reach sixty, for women, and sixty-five for men.
You cannot go for six weeks without money, put in a claim for Pension credit.
Their phone number is:0845 6060265.
Give them a call, explain your situation. They are very helpful, and will do all they can to put you right. Please let us know how you get on.

I have already rung the Pension people, who say they cannot help. I will give them another try, and see what happens, infact i'm sure it was that number. I'll let you know. x

I tried but no luck. My income is too much!!!!

Sorry to hear that, Jan, but I suppose that it was worth trying.

We have a private pension, but because my Husband paid into it for thirty years so we could enjoy retirement,we know it's no good trying to claim for anything, He still pays a lot of tax, think if you are not allowed to claim for things you should at least not have to pay tax once you have retired.

I am still having ongoing problems with the Taxman, too, Jo-Jo. I wouldn't mind, but I'm now also being taxed at source in the U.S. on my earnings as a News Journalist for that American site I write for.
So, in effect, I am paying tax to TWO governments....neither of whose policies I agree with!!!!

I have paid tax on my pensions before I get them, then they are added to my annual amount and then taxed again. I can understand why people get so uptight about the system. I think it stinks. It doesn't seem to matter about what get promised when we vote for a new prime minister etc., nobody seems to be any better than any body else.
