Experience

I don't know much about politics. I hear things and read things and I suppose my mind forms an impression. I am willing to listen and learn though.

I hope ministers aren't responsible for making policies. I did think they were a glorified and very expensive mouthpiece for the actual policy makers. I can not see how people moved from one job to another in a cabinet re-shuffle can possibly be expert enough to take charge of that department and make all of the decisions.

I'm a bit like you Marrieann, I don't understand much about politics either. However, what annoys me so, is the fact that John Prescott has managed to stay put, even though he has committed a sexual act in his place of work. Can you imagine you or me getting away with that one in the firms time, (if we were that way inclined)? I think not! We'd be booted out of our job pretty dam quick and sent packing with P45 and all.

I couldn't agree any more. When I was serving in the Territorial Army years ago, a male junior rank was caught coming out of female quarters after spending the night in there, which was then strictly forbidden. He was arrested, taken to Colchester where he was officially charged, but I don't know what his sentence was apart from getting 'kicked out' of the Territorials after serving whatever punishment they gave him.

Hi, Marieann, thank you for your post and your frank and honest admission. Lot's of people 'turn off' when the subject of politics arises, which is a pity really. I find it absolutley facsinating, and enjoy all the 'cut and thrust' of it. I was active in Local Politics for quite a few years, and even now, I was on the verge of standing for Councillor this time around, until I realised that a friend of mine was standing with a Tory mandate.
He is a very popular and likeable young man, and I was pleased to see he was re-elected this time.
Who knows, perhaps next time? Rolling Eyes
