Fortress Britain.

I have a sneaking feeling that tthese new proposed travel restrictions are just the next step to keeping Britons in the biggest open air jail in the world. Every new proposed piece of legislation is just yet another step towards sealing off our borders from , not only Europe, but the rest of the world. This government is taking entrenchment a bit too far.
Many years ago, I read a book written by an American Author on the subject of entrenchment, and how she thought that the American Public was cocooning itself in it's own homes. Only venturing out to by provisions when it needed to, the rest of the time being spent, shut away indoors. People had severely curtailed visits to places of entertainment and eating establishments, prefering not to run the risk of the crime-ridden streets.
It was, she said, safer to just stay indoors, and make your own entertainment with the t.v. and computer. I think that as usual, a few years later, Britain is following in Americas footsteps. A lot of people, especcially the elderly, are frightened to go out during the evenings. This, of course, leaves the streets clear for the feral youths to roam and vandalise at will. Certain housing estates have become "No Go" areas for our woefully inept police forces. The way things seem to be heading, what with the ever increasing cost of fuel, is that we will not want to travel at all, except on business or emergencys.
We will not want to go on holidays abroad due to the stringent restrictions at ports and airports. Train journeys for pleasure will be a thing of the past, too. Those enjoyable "days out" in the car will just become a distant memory, and our days of freedom will well and truely be over. Once this happens, (and the way things are shaping up, it's not too far off), the government will have it's wish.
To know exactly where we are at all times.

It's true what you say Sandie, but I live near four ports and it's not unusual to have aslylum seekers just walking around having come in the port off lorries and boats, the police don't want to know, nobody does, we can't let this carry on,we have got to start policing our boarders again.
Sandie Seward

The policing of our ports should have been done ages ago, but because of our wishy-washy government, it hasn't been done very effectivly. This, combined with our "open door" immigration policy, has brought about all the problems that we are now facing. Evil or Very Mad
The problem is, that if these proposed new measures are installed, everyone will be affected, not just the immigrants.
Don't we suffer enough in this country already, without even more Draconian laws and restrictions being enforced?
