Going to get a Boa Constrictor

To add to my collection of Exotic Animals, a Boa Constrictor.
It will be a Male, as they are cheaper than Females.
These Snakes grow to around 9ft in length
They come mainly from South America.
Good climbers and normally quite docile,
so easy to handle. Best to do this as often
as possible when they are young.
This will hopefully keep my Royal Python company.!
To begin with though, as it will be quite young,
he will be kept in a separate container,
within a heated Vivarium.
Can't wait to get him,
will make a lovely Birthday present to me.!

Enjoy him, Mike. I would like a Python myself, but so far, have not got any new pets. Very Happy

Each to their own!!! Confused
marieann

Exactly, jojo, but I'll look forward to seeing a picture of it. Sandie how are your snails doing?
Sandie Seward

The snails just suddenly all died for some unknown reason, and I have no idea why.

I still have the tanks but I doubt if I shall be getting any more pets, snails or anything else. They are a "tie" when you go on holiday, or even for weekends away.
Sad
JoJo

Sorry to hear about the snails Sandie, I always think of you when I see them in the graden, I would love another cat but like you say they are such a tie, plus my neighbours are not animal lovers Confused
marieann

I'm sorry about the snails also. What a shame.

How to set up for a Snake.!, Most important, before you begin, Research the details of the Animal's requirements, then you need a Vivarium, which is normally a Cabinet built out of laminated chipboard, this will have sliding glass doors.at the front. It needs to be wired up with a good heat source at one end, which could be a heat pad and or a ceramic heat unit, the ceramic unit, ideally should have a guard to prevent burns to your Animal, if it climbs. Both of these should be controlled by a specialist thermostat. You can add a Fluorescent tube, which for some Reptiles like Iguanas and Chameleons, needs to be a special UVA/UVB spectrum type. This must have a timer so you get a day/night cycle.
Once you have wired everything in, do readings of temperature, making sure it's within the ranges for your Animal. You need to add a Hide, or decorate the Viv, so your Pet can take shelter. You need to add some substrate, like brown bark, maybe some climbing plastic plants or wood branches and a water dish.
It's a good idea to have a reliable thermometer, and a hydrometer to measure humidity

Now that everything's all set up, you are ready for your new Pet
JoJo

It's nice you are so interested Zooman, and are supplying everything it needs, you hear of such horror storys about them being kept in baths, not long ago a ladys dog was killed by one it's owner let it roam in the garden.
