Hays cuts 250 jobs.The impact of the recession on employment levels continues to take its toll at Hays, Europe's biggest recruitment company, which today announced a further 250 UK job losses alongside a 31 per cent slump in fee income.
The gloomy trading update came as forecasters predicted that the jobless rate in Britain could increase to 11.7 per cent by the end of 2010, implying more than 3.6 million out of work, against slightly more than two million at present.
Hays has itself been forced to cut its cloth in tune with the resultant fall in fee income, reducing its own headcount by a further 9 per cent - or 250 jobs - in the three-month period, taking the total losses in the last year to about 900, or 27 per cent.
