Henry, 112, recieves the Legion d'Honneur.First World War veteran Henry Allingham choked back tears of pride as France awarded him one of its highest accolades today, appointing him an officer of the Legion d'Honneur.
Receiving his medal at the French Ambassador's residence in London, the 112-year-old said: 'I never thought in my wildest dreams that such a thing could happen.'

That has brought tears to my own eyes Sandie.
What a wonderful chap he is.
His family must be SO very proud of him.

Maywalk, isn't our Mr. Allingham a wonderful man?
If anyone deserves a Knighthood, then Henry Allingham is the one.

Further to my earlier post I am thinking about forming a Petition on the Downing Street Website with regards to his Country honouring this wonderful man by giving him a Knighthood?
Any further support would be very welcome.

You would have my wholehearted support in this endeavour,Sandie.Sadly,I fear it would all be in vain. This & preceding governments have no concern for past or present members of the services. The term "cannon fodder" springs to mind.
