Jesus Loves You.I have had to take a little while to "cool off", this morning. Why? Because I popped out down the Market to get some food shopping for the weekend.
Visited the Butchers, and the Greengrocery Stalls, bought a new magazine, and was quietly minding my own business, and walking along to the Off License for some tobacco, when I noticed this group of people with banners and posters. A guy was playing the accordian, and a few folk were singing along with him.
'That sounds nice', I thought to myself, and edged a little closer. Suddenly, from nowhere, this big guy approaches me, and tries to give me a leaflet, saying, "Jesus loves you, Jesus will save you. He will guide you away from all your addictions."
'What the f***?' I thought, then realised that it was a group of Christian Religious Zealots, trying to get people into their church.
"No thanks," I said, "not interested." I tried to walk on. He held my arm. I freed myself and walked away, with him following me, all the while ranting on about "how Jesus loves me, and turn to Him and everything will be alright."
I stopped walking, and turned to face him.
"Go away and leave me alone," I said, firmly. "I am not interested in you or your religion."
"But don't you know that Jesus died for your sins?" he said.
"I'm a Wiccan, " I replied, "now just go away, and leave me alone."
But, he wouldn't take no for an answer. He reminded me of one of those Call Centre people trying to sell you something that you don't want, over the phone.
"Jesus loves everyone", he said, beaming at me.
"That's big of him, " I answered, adding, "now just get lost, will you?"
He attempted to press a leaflet onto me. By this time my paitence was wearing thin, so I told him, quite rudely, exactly what he could do with his church, his Jesus, and his leaflet.
I walked away. Turned back, to see him still standing open mouthed, he almost seemed shell-shocked.
Now, I have no problem with other peoples beliefs, unless they try to ram them down my throat, like this guy did. Then, my normally polite and placid self, revolts and turns into a not very nice person.
