Well, after a search lasting many years I think I've finally found a book that I first read in my infancy. It was called 'Joey the Jeep' and was first published in 1945. It tells the story of an ex G.I. Jeep that has been 'demobbed' and returned to civvy street. It tells of his adventures and experiences of life in a big city. The vehicles all have personalities and some are kind towards him whilst others are not.
I actually learned to read with this book, (my Mother taught me before I even went to school), and I can recall her telling me that I could actually recite the whole book, out loud, from memory. Whilst I can no longer do so, I do have hazy recollections of it, and I'm looking forward to getting another copy.
I located it on a Texan Bookshop website, and actually ordered it this week. I've recieved confirmation from the bookstore owner, that it was shipped out to me on Tuesday, and it should take just over a week to arrive.
Will keep you posted.

It cost me just over $50 Dollars including shipping to the U.K. It is a hardback book, and I think it was around 80 or 90 pages, with some brilliant illustrations of old Yank motors.
I've no idea where my Mum bought it originally, (perhaps she was given it as a pressie from a 'grateful' G.I.?
The mind, boggles!

It's arrived!!! And it ISthe Book that I had when young. It was so good to read it again and see the brilliant illustrations (in colour).
Remember, this is a book that was first published in the USA in 1945. In this country, in 1945, we could barely publish a newspaper!
I shall really cherish this copy, believe me. Worth every penny (cent) of the $50 it cost me.
