Sandie Seward

Ken Clarke.

I first wrote this post way back when this Forum was in it's infancy.

Isn't it strange how History has a habit of repeating itself.

So, it looks like David Cameron is going to become the new leader of the Conservative Party.
I can't help noticing certain similarities with the New Labour Leader. Both are very charismatic and will, no doubt be very much in the spotlight during the next twelve months or so.
To hell with the policies, let's have a guy as Leader who looks the part.
As I've already said in one of my earlier posts, poor old non-polictically-correct Kenneth Clark never stood a chance, did he.? He's fond of a tipple or two, smokes cigars, and is rather on the corpulant side. Ring any bells here? What other famous Tory leader does this remind you of? Thats right, dear old Winston Churchill! And he became one of the greatest leaders and Prime Ministers that this country has ever had. Yet Winston, was an inveterate drunk, smoked like a chimney, and rarely exercised.
Yet through all that alcoholic haze and cigar smoke, his brain remained razor sharp, and I doubt if this country would have survived the Second World War without his leadership.
I'm not saying that Ken Clark is another Winston, but the similarities are, in my opinion, quite striking.
Lets just hope that the new Tory 'Boy Wonder' can cut the mustard, although I somehow doubt it.

Now Cameron has re-instated Ken to the Front Bench to take on The Prince of Darkness himself.

What's the betting that if the Tories get elected again, Ken becomes Chancellor once more?

Remember, you read it here first!
Smile
