another of my hobbies i have now got into is these message boards and so joined as many as i can that i find of interest to me. i am member of about twelve now and try my best to post on each and at leaset once a day to keep it going. without posters, they are a waste of time anybody starting them. as well as the postings, we get to meet different people and some i am very pleased to have made friends with. one thing that does annoy me on them is when we see guest after guest look in, but not join because either they don't see what they want, or there are very few people joined it and so don't bother to add on to it. they all start somewhere, so why don't these 'guests' help boost the numbers. one i am now on, has over 1400 registered members and only been going a short while.

Brian, starting any new Forum is slow and takes time, usually, to build up. This one has been going for almost six months, we started off with just two of us (Ken.R. and myself) who had met online at another Forum.
The pair of us kept this fledgeling forum alive through it's weak and sickly infancy, but now, thanks to yourself, and a couple more, it's taking it's first faltering steps. Let's just hope it will grow into a healthy and strong 'Adult'.

Can only but try Sandie. Can only but try. That I will do as much as possible and I joined another Spiritual one tonight and on http://www.spiritlightstheway.invasionzone.com/forums/index.php it takes a little while before you get clearance, but they sure make you welcome on there. I will try to get a link on there when I work out where to post it.

I opted out of the above within a week. They wanted members to form links from other forums to theirs, but NOT the other way round where Spiritual ones were concerned and deleted mine, so I opted out and VERY FAST. I have this forum linked on several different other forums.
I am however, surprised you have yet to join the LT&SR one I started?

Hi Brian, at the moment I am kept busy enough with other online activities, and find it difficult enough being a member of the forums I'm currently active with. It's no point in my joining too many and then not becoming an active member.
I have looked at your C2C one, and it looks good, so, who knows, I probably will join when I get the time.

Bless you, I understand. Door will always be open as long as I can keep it going.

I am not so keen on being in many forums for several personal reasons that I won't discuss; using a big spreadsheet for what/where/TOD, during 25hrs (sic) each day; but I like what I have seen here on this first afternoon.

Frank, Forums can be very time-consuming, and some really are not worth bothering with. I grew disallusioned with a couple I was a member of last year, and thought to myself, 'I'm sure I could start my own Forum, keep it sensible and decent, and see what happens.'
That was last November. The other Forum I belong to is a Diecast Collectors and Restoration Forum, which I am co-Administrator of. My Forum Partner and I met on an older forum that we both belonged to, which was spoilt by silly people who thought that our Diecast Model hobby was 'childish', and they started 'spamming' it with silly posts. It wasn't properly moderated or run, so we decieded to start our own Diecast Forum. We had a 'Head Start', as we brought over with us quite a few decent and sensible members from the old Forum. I'm pleased to say that all those Members are still with us, a year later, and that the Forum now has almost 90 Members, and is still growing.
However, running two Forums can be hard work at times, but are very rewarding, not financially of course, but spiritually!

It is a bit of a 'catch 22' situation, as a small forum, particularly one where the people originally involved have similar interests, can mean that those looking in for the first time may not find anything to which they feel qualified to respond. They will probably not feel confident enough to start a new topic and so walk away.
As you've probably realised I mainly post a daily giggle, but even there I'm feeling my feet as not everyone has the same sense of humour.
I am only a committed member of one holiday forum which I joined some years ago. There are bits for each country as well as things like flights, cruises, ex pats, and d.i.y. and whatever anyone wants to know there is usually someone who can point them in the right direction or, more likely, give them an answer. Some of us specialise in particular areas (Tunisia in my case). They used to have a general chat area but that closed down and some of those who used it set up another one which I look at sometimes - it started off with the advantage that quite a lot of people knew about it from the beginning.
Now that forum has tried to start a holiday section as well, but it has not really taken off as most still use the original, because of the width of experience on there.
I do hope this site will grow as I find people very friendly and I can imagine how hard Sandie and Ken are working on it.

Many thanks for those sentiments, Tricia. You're very welcome here as I'm sure you know by now. Thanks for your daily input. It's appreciated.
