My Washer

The rubber seal around the door of my washer has been growing black mould and it looked awful,I have scrubbed it with bleach and even done a wash cycle with Cillit Bang and thats supposed to move everything well it didn't remove this growing black stuff, so I got the washer man in, he said it's bacteria growing because I don't use the boil wash anymore, well I don't need to most clothes say 40 degrees, thought I was doing my bit for the planet Confused anyway I have a new door seal I must wash once a week on the boil wash even if the machine is empty, and it has cost me £55 well we learn something everyweek don't we Question
Sandie Seward

Stands to reason, JoJo, that if a 40 degree wash doesn't kill off the mould on your door seal, then it probably doesn't kill off the germs and bacteria from clothes, either.

Just out of interest, do hospitals still do a boil wash? If they don't, another reason for the rampant spread of of C.Diff and other viruses.

These days it is unecessary to boil wash, what with all the wasjhing powders about.  The solution is to clean your rubber everytime you wash I suppose.
browneyes

Jan try doing a 40 wash with soda im sure it will work and it will be kwicker than a boil wash  Smile
janowl

I'm sure your'e right.  I would think that a continuous boil wash would do the rubber more harm thatn good, as the heat will surely perish it in the end???
browneyes

well when Di had trouble with hers the problem was that for some reason there was a nasty smell inside and they said the best thing you can use for smells, black fungus etc is soda so i hope it works for you if it happens again
JoJo

Well thankyou for the tip I will have a go with soda, did an empty boil wash today with bleach it took over two hours for the cycle to finish, so it's going to cost a bit in electric, my mother used to use soda bags on her ankle and knee she made these bags put soda in them and wrapped them around her swollen ankle overnight, and I don't know how it worked but it would take away the fluid  Smile old fashioned remedy
browneyes

now thats a realy good tip for swollen ankles Jojo, but i think that the boil wash once a month is the best think altho i know that soda works as i said, cant you give all your tea towels and towels a boil wash also dish cloths, pants, hankys etc even if they dont need doing at least you will be boiling somthing and not waisting the hot water.  Wink
dorramae

JO JO, Can't think that the bleach would do the rubber much good, and
surely it must be better and more economical to  wash something at the same time.
I alway leave the door slightly open when not in use,, but I do make sure that the rubber is dry.
JoJo

Thanks Dorramae and Browneyes, I am also looking at the sort of washing powder, I always use Persil in the draw with softener,I am going to use Bold 2in1 liquid so I will stop putting anything in the soap draw,I am always having to clean that out as well, I have never liked this Hotpoint Washer I bought it in a hurry when my other hotpoint machine packed up just before we were going on holiday,it is about four years old now and I have had so many things done to it, so maybe I will change it when the kitchen is revamped next year.  Smile What do you recommend?
browneyes

Hoover every time for me the first one i had lasted 18 years......yes 18 years, the next 14,and so for this one 7 and its still going strong, the servise is so good they are always here within two days if i have a problem, the 2nd one was when i had a sock stuck in the pipe somwhere and the 3rd was the door seal was leaking,i must say tho that i pay for an insurance to cover for repairs which on the first one payd for its self 3 times over cos it was so old they replcaed everything but the outer shell,it a new for old insurance so that when this one cant be repaird i get a new washer.
iv put this bit in to see if i can put a picture on cos my son has taken all mine home to put on somthing and bring it back in july.........just being the same old me got to have a go  Embarassed i dont even know what it is
browneyes

Beko make good washing machines, also if you are looking for a good washing powder, try Almat only available from Aldi stores.  I have been using it solely for years and found it extremely good value for money.

Also, don't forget the Calgon to keep that limescale at bay.
browneyes

yes but Sandie calgon is only soda so why spend money on it? Confused

I don't, soda is much cheaper. Then, I don't have my own washer, we have a communal laundry room in my Complex with two machines, a front loader and an old top loader. The top loader works much better even though it's older.

We also have two reasonably new tumble dryers, which is just as well because living in a first floor flat there is very limited space, and the last thing I'd want is to have damp washing hanging around.
browneyes

oh thats handy for you,and as for the tumble dryers i wouldnt be without mine it saves on a lot of ironing dont you think?
Sandie Seward

Browneyes, to my mind, one of the biggest time wasters ever is Ironing clothes that, are creased again the second you put them on.

I do no ironing whatsoever, in fact, I don't even possess an iron!
Shocked
browneyes

oh my god i thought i was the only person that hated ironing,i am a good ironer but i hate doing it,iv got mine hidden up stairs in the small room  Laughing
JoJo

Thanks for all the tips, I don't mind ironing I don't like it to pile up too much though, I am going to look for some soda when I do my next shop those Calgon tablets are expensive arn't they I didn't know they are mainly soda Confused
browneyes

well when you get to my age (cof cof) you will learn to look on the pkt  Rolling Eyes  Laughing
