New Clock

I bought a new travell alarm clock today from Argos Radio Controlled Precision, you never have to set the time again so it said,so I put in the batteries and waited, and bingo up it all came, trouble was it was in German, well the day was and the time was one hour ahead of us, the instructions are as clear as mud, after a lot of mesing about I found the English version, I have now set the alarm and can't find were to switch it off, all this modern technology is driving me insane Shocked

I also have a bedside clock that is "radio controlled", keeps perfect time, changes from GMT to BST, and works perfectly. The only problem is, I cannot work out how to set the alarm...not that I need it these days. Laughing

Tony's wanted one of those wall clocks with a pendulum for years. He got one a few months ago it chimes four times an hour but it's silent from 11 pm until 6.15am and I put it on Wittington chimes because they seem softer than Westminster.

When the clocks changed we had to take it off the wall which was a nightmare and move the pointers by turning a little wheel. The directions were a bit confusing and I kept thinking it was taking a long time for the chimes to come on line until I discovered we should have turned the wheel twice and we'd made day night which meant the clock didn't chime from 11am to 6.15pm but chimed all night long.

I would rather have a nice little clock but I don't need an alarm on it either.

I also have a chiming mantle clock. It is a repro of a "Napolean" style clock, but not quite so big. This clock uses three batteries, and it chimes the Hour using Westminster Chimes.

Again, to either fit new batteries or alter the time from BST back to GMT (or the other way around), is a bloody nightmare.

It seems to take forever, and you need to go through every single hour.

It starts chiming at 6am, and ends at 10pm. Like your clock, Marie, you have to get it right for day and night. Very awkward. What happened to the simple clockwork clocks where all you needed to do was to wind them up every couple of days or so?

I do also have a very unusual clock with a Chinese Theme that still works on the old clockwork motor, and has to be wound up every two days. It is quite old, but still keeps perfect time.

Certainly makes me think the old ways are better Laughing
My  main clock is a battery operated one with an alarm that is  birds tweeting, but I too hardly ever need the alarm. Smile

We have two Grandfather clocks, but I only put the chimes on the one in the front room now and again, when you are watching the tv it is most annoying when it chimes, our old one in the hall date 1760 _1830 I never put on because we live in a bungalow and it is right outside our bedroom door, I would never get any sleep, but love the look of it. Oh my alarm went off this morning 7.50 I think I have managed to turn it off now will let you know if it goes off again tomorrow Confused

I hope you've sorted it out, jojo, I wouldn't be happy to be woken that early it would put me off for the rest of the day.

I can't get smilies on the quick reply box and I'm not sure how to get the full reply editor.

For the reply "editor" just click on to the button where it says "edit", Marie, and you should find it'll work for you.

Smilies are a law unto themselves!!!!!
