My local Aldi's is selling a 32" TFT Television with built-in Freeview, HD Ready, and many other bang-up-to-date features, including a built-in device called "Eco-Power" technology which automatically reduces the energy required to run the device.
So, as I will have the cash by Thursday when it goes on sale, I intend to upgrade and finally say goodbye to the old CRT set that I shall give to Louise's Dad to enjoy, along with the Freeview Set-Top Box.
My little bit towards helping the Economy.

Well, Joan, the last time they had similar sets in stock, some were still in stock over a week later.
This recession has affected many people very badly.

It's Sod's Law, it really is. The ONE morning this week where I wanted to get up early, what happens?
That's right, I go back to bed after getting up around six a.m. to go to the bathroom, and I go back to sleep and the next thing I know it's almost 10.30 a.m.
Anyway, get myself organised as quickly as possible, stop for a cup of tea, then out the door and round the shop.
By now the time was getting on for 11a.m., and I noticed two of the t.v's on their pallet, where there had been a delivery of Ten!
Anyway, I was lucky to get one, and managed to get it home safe and sound in my car.
I could even carry it upstairs myself, as it wasn't really that heavy, which was good.
Later on, during the afternoon, I visited the shop again for more boring purchases like food, when the lady in the queue in front of me asked the Cashier about the televisions, saying that she had driven down from Wickford because the branch at Wickford had sold out.
She was so lucky! She picked up the LAST one, paid for it using her Debit Card (as did I), and she bought the last of the ten sets that had been only on sale that morning.
All Ten had sold in the space of around six hours, and at almost £300 a throw, that's not too bad at all, a nice result for Aldi's.
Anyway, mine is still sitting in it's protective box and polystyrene until Monday, when the people from the Hospice Charity have arranged to pick up my old set and box.
So I shall just have to be patient until then. At least, I'll be all set up and ready for the new Formula One Season, only two weeks to go.

You were very lucky Sandie, you are good not wanting to set it up untilyou get rid of your old one,I just would not be able to wait

The thing is, Joan, there is nothing at all "wrong" with the old one, it's just the space it takes up and the weight of it.
It's a "Tevion" the same make as my new one, and I bought it new from Aldi's just under three years ago.
It's got a 27" screen, and it still produces a lovely picture, but it isn't H.D. ready, nor does it have that energy saving device installed.
The TFT sets are the way forward now, both in Computer Monitor screens and televisions.

The two guys from the Charity Shop arrived late morning, and the oldest of the two picked up my old set in his arms and carried it out the door on his own.
I was suitably impressed! Show Off!!!!!!
Anyway, I installed it's successor this afternoon and it was just so easy to get it set up. It searched for all the Freeview Channels and it took about ten minuets for it to do so.
No more set-top box required as all the Freeview channels are built in. The picture is perfect, and where my older set kept "cutting out" regarding sound, this new one doesn't.
Very pleased with it, worth the wait and the money.
