post boxesRecently I joined a local Historical Society, and we had a man from the
post office telling the history of the post office,it was actually very interesting.One thing he said was that the original post boxes were
green and now there are only three left,one is in a museum. one at post
office head quarters and only one still in everyday use. And where is it?

Dora, that is fantastic! Never ever seen a green postbox before, can you please tell us what Monarch is on the front of it?
Is it earlier than Victoria?
I do know where there is still a green Telephone Kiosk......in the village of Portisham in Dorset.
Special colour dispensastion because the Villagers reckoned that a red one would have clashed with the beautiful countryside......which it would have.

It is actually George III, 1760 to 1820 It is quite difficult to read it
insn't it Sandie but my daughter looked the insigner up on some historical site to double check it. So this would tie up with what the guy from
the post office told us.

You want to cherish that one, a pure little piece of English History, only a few hundred yards from your front door!
