"At the moment, residents have a black bin which all non-recyclable goods such as broken glass and plastic packaging go into; a green bin for garden and kitchen waste as well as cardboard; a black box for recyclables including paper, newspaper, glass, cans and clean foil; and a blue box for plastic bottles."
So if that's the case then why are Councils all over the Country renting vast empty warehouses at Taxpayers' Expense, naturally, to store all the stuff that was once sent to China to be God knows what?
Simply because the Chinese no longer want nor need our cast-offs, and any value that once was in paper, tin, etc, has crashed due to the Recession!

Evidently, all those glowing government reports on the amount of waste we are recycling, are based on the amount of actuall waste collected from the doorstep, not what is actually done with the waste once it is collected or how much of it is actually recycled !
In Cambridgeshire now, because the bottom has fallen out of the waste paper and cardboard market, the local recycling centres are shredding it and selling it to farmers for use as a compost on the land !
I currently have a 140 litrewheeled bin for household waste, a 140 litre wheeled bin for garden waste, a 140 litre wheeled bin for recycling paper etc. and two large green crates for glass and metals !
At least we know where the scrap plastic is going, they are making bl**dy bins out of it !

Don't get me wrong, Ken, I have been an advocate for re-cycling for many years.
I religiously re-cycle my glass and tin cans, (don't buy Newspapers), although where I live there is no obligation to do so.
But what is the point if it has become worthless now? Like everything in this poor benighted Country, it all seems to be falling apart, and nothing works as it should anymore.
Welcome to Gordon Brown's Third World Britain!

they have just started to do the re-cycling bit here in Deal,so we have green bags for garden rubbish, blue bags for papers, cardoard etc and a black box for tins, last week every one put them all out the wind got up and was so bad all the bags and boxes blew down to the end of the road, there was rubbish every where......dont think i will bother with that any more best to take it to the dump.
JoJo
Fancy giving you bags browneyes, they are going to blow everywere, we have a big wheelie bin for garden rubbish. and three plastic boxes for tins, glass, and paper, plastic bottles we take to tescos bins.

Just what is the point trying hard to re-cycle properly, if it all either gets stashed inside huge empty warehouses, or ends up back in Landfill, anyway?

[/quote]Cor that's good for Kent county council. What a waste of time. I know for a fact that when I lived there that Walmer were already recycling with bins, as my colleauges used to recycle. Here in Northants we have three bins. Green for garden waste and cardboard. Brown for anything like yogurt pots, glass jars, newspapers and junk mail, and plastic bottles. Grey for any other. The trouble is that there is a house near me and the people fill their bins up and then start on mine. Ok, they have to put it somewhere but they don't recycle and just bung it in. Consequently my bin gets refused for having the wrong things in it. I have to sort it all out. I have informed the environmental dept., but they, in there wisdom have not got back to me. The house is multi let and i'm sure there shouldn't be so many people in there and the council know about it supposedly!!!!!!!

The whole re-cycling thing has turned into a nightmare for many people, Janowl.
What's the point anyway if it's all stashed away in warehouses (think of the rats, not everyone washes their tins and jars out).
Probably all be dumped into landfill soon anyway, just the thing they were trying to avoid doing in the first place!

Hopefully they do use it for other means, but not holding my breath. Makes you wonder though doesn't it, if it all worthwhile or not.

well this week Arthur (in his wisdom) put two bricks in the bottom of the black bock to stop it blowing away......you should have seen the look on the mans face when he tryd to pick it up....next week Arths not going to do it,i cant wait to see the man go to pick it up thinking its heavy and it will be lite,oh dear jan what am i like every thing is a joke to me,re-cycling is a good idea but here in Deal as you know they never do any thing right
