Whatever was special about this train I have no idea. They were taking photographs all day.

Marie, ANY steam engine is Special, you'd understand if you were an enthusiast, believe me.

I love those little old saddle tank engines, you used to see them everywhere once upon a time ! Perhaps it was going for the World Record Shortest Goods Train ?
I notice it doesn't have a tender, Admin, where did they put the coal ?
Very nice pics by the way Marie

Hi Ken. Tank engines vary where they carry their coal. The larger ones had rear bunkers, on the small saddle tanks, (the 'saddle' was of course the water tank), usually the small(ish) amount they need would be carried inside the cab, or even in front of the cab near the water tank.
Remember,Ken, these little industrial tanks only ran for short distances mainly for shunting etc. so it was easy enough for the crew to pop back for more.
The larger 'Prarie' tanks, (beloved by the GWR), could hold up to three tons of coal in thier bunkers.

Thanks Admin, that's answered a question that I have pondered over for many years !
