Steve Chesworth..1924-2007

Steve was my neighbour who became, during the six years that I knew him, a very dear friend.
I used to regularly spend an hour on a Friday sitting with him, and drinking tea. He always took an interest in my latest Diecast Models that I had bought, would always recieve any parcels that I wasn't at home for when they were delivered either by post or courier.
He was there for me, and I'll really miss him.

Steve married his childhood sweetheart, Olive, whom he had known since she was fourteen and he was sixteen. The only time they spent apart during their almost sixty-one years of marriage was during the Second World War, when he served with the Army in Africa.
About two years ago, Steve found that he could no longer care for his wife at home. She was diabetic and he had had to give her regular insulin injections, he cooked for her, kept their home spotless, but his health had deteriorated so much, that when she suffered a severe fall in their bathroom, he had to conciede that he could no longer care for her anymore. He was wearing himself out, and his own health wasn't good by this time.
His wife ended up in a Care Home, and he used to get a cab to go and visit her at least twice a week.
He started suffering from breathing problems, and his last few months he had to use a wheelchair when he went out.
He gave up a lifelong habit of smoking about three years ago, and seemed to suffer more because of it.

He spent last Christmas Day with his wife, and they enjoyed Christmas Dinner together for the last time.

He leaves a wife, and a son and daughter, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

R.I.P. Steve. You'll be missed.
