The Lake

When we first had our dog ( Gigi ) my son invited us over for a BBQ at his house.
While waiting for the food to cook I decided to take Gigi for a walk round the man made lake at the back of where my son lives.
Its been made into a picturesque spot where swans, ducks and wildlife are flourishing in abundance, as well as the lovely walk round the lake and a large picnic area. Its a really peaceful area and I was looking forward to that walk round the lake.
I got as far as the entrance and Gigi dug her claws in and would not budge. I tried to pick her up but she struggled frantically to get out of my arms.
No amount of pulling her would make her go through the entrance so I gave up and decided to walk her on the recreation ground instead. She was perfectly happy with this and when I got back to my sons house I told them how she had reacted when getting to the lake entrance.
My daughter-in-law said "I wonder if she sensed the murder that took place there last week!"
I nearly fell through the floor because I knew nothing about this and I had not told my family where I was going or else they would have told me about it. This happened over 5 years ago.

We never took Gigi there again until yesterday. I went with my daughter-in-law and my granddaughter to the lake to take some photos of this pretty place.
Gigi wasn’t having any and she struggled once again to get away from there. I had a real tussle with her as she was choking on her lead to get away from the entrance.
I went outside the entrance with the dog while my d-i-l and granddaughter went to take the photos.
Something had spooked Gigi the first time and she had never forgotten it.
Extremely odd.

Here are some views of the lake or Charnwood Water as it is called.
A lovely spot that our local council made from a disused quarry about 20odd years ago.
They have raft racing there for charities and windsurfing. there is also a lovly picnic spot looking out over the lake. Very picturesque.

Maywalk, your dogs' reaction isn't uncommon. Animals can often sense things that we can't, some in particular seem to get upset by negative vibes. These are what Gigi felt, and it spooked her.
It does look a nice place though, doesn't it. Confused

How strange but I think animals are more sensitive than we ever know, my dog often reacts to things that are not there, or, maybe it is something she can see and I cannot??

A beautiful place that, your photos are really great. Laughing

Thanks Dee,

Yes animals really DO have a sixth sense in my opinion.

Even birds stop whistling when a storm is brewing because they know it is coming well before we humans do. Rolling Eyes

It is a good job animals and birds have good instincts, there is plenty of danger out there, especially from HUMANS.
This is me with a rescued baby Thrush. It was one of two been tormented by cats at midnight in the middle of the road. I was shutting my bedroom curtains saw what was going on and rescued these helpless little creatures, we released them back to their parents the following morning after feeding them.
