The World at War

I watched the final part of this classic documentary series again earlier this evening on UK TV History. One of the comments in the film suddenly made me sit up and take notice. Apparently the total number of people actually killed in that war on all sides numbered FIFTYFIVE MILLION!

It takes a while for that almost unimaginable figure to sink in, but, when it did, I tried vainly to imagine the amount of people that was in total.
Almost the whole of the population of these Islands!
God, it does make you think, it really does. Shocked

That was a cracking series Admin, a couple of weeks ago, The Mail did a coupn collect to get the whole 26 episodes of The World At War on DVD, I managed to get the requisite amount of coupons and have sent off the set, can't wait for it to come now !

It is shocking what you say about total casualties in WW2, most people only concern themselves with our casualties or the total for the fighting forces of all sides, which is relatively low compared to the total figure. It does kind of bring it all into perspective when you realise just how many actual souls lost their lives !

We must hope that we never see the likes of it again.

Amen to that, Ken. Enjoy your series, it is worth repeated viewings.
