Like I have always said, Mike, you can literally advertise anything that isn't on their "banned goods" list, and, mostly it sells!

I have my first two sales on Ebay at the moment, in the photography section, it wasn't my peanut though, honest.

Good for you, Marie. However, just a friendly word here, the Sellers Fees on eBay can be pretty steep.
When I recently sold my old car the car sold for just over £90, the eBay Sellers Fee came to £20.
Cheaper to have put a card in the Newsagent's Window.

Don't worry too much, it's cars that are advertised at the steepest rates. The other catagories are not usually too bad.

It hadn't occurred to me there would be a seller's fee even though I know there is at a normal auction. I'm so pleased you mentioned it. I've just bought there up until now.
It's 10% I've checked it and it was silly of me not to think about it before but now I've got to tell Tony. Half the money is his old camera and he's going to hate it.

I found e.bay was getting greedy with their fees but were else can you put something that gets so many viewing? I have a wireless hob to put on bt sent me a new one when I upgarded to Bt Tv, I asked what to do with it and they said it was mine so when I get time I will list it.

Can I ask about VAT, please, If whoever buys my items wants a VAT Invoice I can't give them one because I don't have a VAT number. Is that going to be a problem. I think the one after Tony's camera is a business.
On top of that I bought two batteries for Tony's ear phones from Ebid at the weekend and a battery for his new camera from Ebay. All of them were free postage and the man from Ebay emailed on Monday to say he's posted his battery but it hasn't come yet. I haven't heard anything from the Ebid man.

The postal service is in a real mess at the moment, so don't worry unduly about any delays, it's par for the course until the bloody Postal Workers get themselves sorted.
Regarding VAT. As a private seller, VAT is not an issue, nor unless you have a registered business can you give VAT reciepts.
The business that is buying your item will realise this, and work accordingly.
Buying and selling can be a bit of a minefield, but it's great fun, just enjoy it, and don't worry.
If you intend to sell on a regular basis however, it is always worth keeping a record of transactions, if for no other reason at least you will know exactly how much your goods sell for.

Thanks, Sandie, that helps. I have two sales running and they're my first so I'm very unsure about what's what and I want things to go smoothly.
Tony's camera had a bid five minutes after it was put on and no more bids since but nine people watching. Someone from about eight miles away has sent two emails while I've been out today asking if they win the auction can they come and collect it. That threw me because it was so unexpected.
The other one is a Canon lens extender and there are four watching that. I've had enquiries about prices for sending it to Ireland, France, Austria and Denmark. I'm getting scared to look at my emails.

The first one's over and there was a little flurry at the end it had gone up £26.00 when I got the result and I didn't see any of this going on. The young lady who bought it came and collected it and she was lovely. Someone had stolen her camera which was the same Canon SLR as ours and she needed it for university for her design work.
Someone from the Irish Republic sent me four messages in the last 45 minutes begging to be allowed to bid and would I do something about it. Something about Ebay needing permission from me to exempt him from the conditions. I had to apologise and tell him I had no idea why he couldn't bid or what to do about it.
It was hectic and completely different to what I'd expected. There were 17 watching it by the close and my second item still hasn't had a bid. I see what you mean about fees, jojo, We must have paid Paypal as well because £251.00 was paid in and there's only £242 something there and then about £28 for Ebay I thnk.
I'm sorry I'm rambling I'm still winding down. All these messages and enquiries they were like listening to a foreign language I didn't know what to make of some of them.

Some people try to get you to complete the deal outside of eBay.
This is quite a common occurrance,and eBay, quite naturally, frown upon it, and anyone caught trying it will get banned from the site.
I have well over 1500 positive feedback scores, mostly for buying, but I suppose about 15% of those is for selling also.
Being quite a seasoned performer with eBay, I do pretty much know what makes them tick, and Sellers Fees (both for eBay and Paypal) makes them a lot of money, believe me.
However, the system does work, and I have generally found that it's one of the safest ways to buy and sell online, but certainly not the cheapest!

Yes I agree Sandie the only time I got bad feedback was when someone didn't pay for an item, I complained to e.bay and they removed it I had done nothing wrong just asked for my money, but on the whole I think you are a safe as you can be selling on the internet with them.
