Times Flies, or, Tempus Fugit, as they say in Latin.

So, it's March already. The time since Christmas has really flown by. Since retirement came along and grabbed me by the short and curlys, every day now is just like a Saturday. It's rather weird actually, and has taken me a while to get used to it.

When I was working, every day was very different, Mondays were crap, Tuesdays were crap, so were Wednesdays and Thursdays. But although they were crap, they were all different crap. Only Fridays were different, not quite so crappy, and of course there was the Weekend to look forward to.

Weekends were generally O.K. except that the television was generally full of crappy programmes.  At least, I could always have a lie in, well, not Saturdays, but I could on Sundays, oh, wait, no I couldn't even do that on a Sunday because the dog needed to be walked, otherwise there would be a pile of crap on the carpet.

So really, what I'm saying that my working life was mostly a pile of crap!

Now, retirement is also rather crappy, for different reasons. Before I retired I had plans for travelling the country by car, stopping off just when and where I fancied. Staying in little Guest Houses, and generally visiting all those places that I never had the time to visit whilst working.

However, it hasn't quite been like that. Since I have retired, I now find myself on a very fixed income that hasn't kept pace with inflation, and all the rises in our Utility Bills and Petrol.

My car sits, idle, I sit at home in front of the computer screen for hours at a time, and often wishing I was somewhere else.

In one of those little Guest Houses perhaps, or hill-walking in Northumberland, and staying with my old and dear friend June. I did this the year before retirement, when I had my last two-weeks paid holiday.

Now, if I go away, I no longer get paid for it. It all has to come out of the measly pension that our beloved government thinks we can live on.

Quote:" This is the amount that the Authorities say you need to live on." Unquote.

Have they ever tried "living " on it? I don't think so, do you?

I remember a few years ago applying for a dss loan. They wanted to take £10 a week from our benefits to repay it.I wrote back quoting the above with figures asking how they could justify taking that much if we were already living on what the government deemed was the minimum amount to live on.I offered to pay half that amount over a longer period.Basically they said that was the repayment amount, take it or leave it.We left it!

Yes you have come across the one problem with retirement,if you spend money you can't put it back, we have been retired now for six years we enjoy it very much, but have had to cut back on many of the things we took for granted when we both worked. Confused
