When in Rome etc. This is England we speak/read ENGLISH I would not be so presumptious on visiting or emigrating to another country to expect them to change their road signage to cater for my needs.I would learn their language & use it at every opportunity in order to be welcomed.
My local council & polish people seem to think otherwise.

Perhaps a better idea would be Bi-Lingual roadsigns. This works very well in Wales, and I do not see any problem with it, apart from the extra expense of course.

Or perhaps even better would be bi-lingual drivers Sandie ! if you cna't read the signs, don't go out on the roads ! Ignorance of the law is no excuse !!!
After all, trucks drivers who ply the continent daily, are expected to be conversant with the signs in every country they visit, why should immigrants be any different ! ?

I thought that European Union signs were pretty much universal. Isn't this why they changed over from those lovely quaint old signs we used to have?
My favourite road sign of all time was the one in the Irish Republic when you came up to a Main Road. Instead of saying "HALT" like ours used to do, instead it commanded in Arthurian tones: "YIELD"!!!!!!
I always expected to see Sir Lancealot go galloping past on a white Charger!

You still get "Yield" signs in the States Sandie, I used to see them regularly on my visits over there.
