I shall be away from the Forum tomorrow, as the system is once again being upgraded to a Pentium Four 3g. Processor. My Engineer, (Lou) reckons the whole job involved should mean that I'm offline for about twenty-four hours.
Just think, peeps, you'll have a Whole Day without me!

Jim, Jim, look at the date, Man. I posted that in SEPTEMBER!!!!
Soon going to upgrade my systems memory, from 1gb and double it to 2gb.
Probably next week, may even be sooner. _________________ http://sewardchronicles.ning.com/

WOW, I did not even look at the date. What a DUMMY I am.
Oh well, now you are upgrading your ram. I use a pentium 5 dual core 4 gig processor with 2 gigs of ram and I still have problems with the internet.
Anything on my own machine is lightning fast but there are still issues with speed compatibility on the internet. Connection issues mostly.
You are making a smart move and upgrading rather than buying another machine. Sounds like you started with an upgradagle computer.
As you may know, I build and sell computer systems for friends of mine. I could even get them for people in England and the Continent if they would pay the shipping. I save most of my friends about 50% or more on there machines.
Store bought are not usually upgradeable and mine always are. Some not as much as others but still upgradeable.
Good luck and have fun with your newer and faster computer.

Jim, my partner, Lou, is a qualified computer engineer, and she looks after our systems. She builds all her computers from scratch, using fully upgradeable components. The one I'm currently using has already been upgraded about four times, with larger harddrives, enhanced graphic card, and a surround-sound sound card.
This will also be the 2nd memory upgrade. The only problem with it is, that I am now using the maximum processor the mother-board will support.
For any further upgrades, I would need a completely new mother-board.
Actually, that is on the cards for the New Year.
Computers really are a "never-ending story", aren't they? _________________ http://sewardchronicles.ning.com/
Did you get a new motherboard sandie and is it easy to replace a graphics card? I thought you had a problem with microsoft recognising your operating system if you replaced the motherboard but I might be meaning the processor. _________________ Marie
Yes,Marie, the new Motherboard is waiting to be installed, along with an upgraded Graphics Card.
I'm waiting now to get a more powerful processor. The motherboard is a SATA board, which means it will be a lot quicker in performing certain functions.
I will ask Lou to answer your other question, later on today, and get her to post her reply here for you. _________________ http://sewardchronicles.ning.com/
What with money and everything else being so expensive, the new computer has had to go on the back burner for the time being.
I have new components sitting, waiting to be installed, but there are still some things I need to buy for it, before it can all come together as a working unit.
It's taking a lot longer than expected, but, hopefully, it will be up and running before Xmas. _________________ http://sewardchronicles.ning.com/
Yes, Marie, it certainly has. I now have a SATA Motherboard, a Intel Pentium Four processor (3.2gb), a Nvidea Graphics Card, not sure of the model number, but it's very much a "high end" one. I can even alter the speed of the cooling fan, and keep an eye on the temperature too. _________________ http://sewardchronicles.ning.com/
That is almost twice as powerful as the one I'm using at the moment. I'm by no means an expert but I think it means you can do a lot of things at once, very quickly, without your system crashing.
A good video card gives you great graphics and I don't know anything about motherboards.
You need something like that Sandie, your pc works hard it needs to be reliable. She's a little gem that Louise, isn't she. _________________ Marie
