I saw South Shetland on Springwatch on BBC this afternoon Vailron. They were watching the seabirds, mainly Puffins, is that anywhere near you?

The wind was so strong the waves and spray were shooting up in the air and you could see the birds actually floating on the wind rather than flying. Very Happy

Yes, I watched that as well Marieann and I immediately thought of Vailron. It's a very interesting programme with Bill Oddy and I'm not sure what the woman's name is, but they work well together. Some terrific photo shots of those kingfishers and the housemartins. I will watch that programme again, I love wild life.

Hope I don't come back as an earwig in my next life, imagine having all those babies all in one go. Poor little earwig, they're only small.

I loved the goldfinch and kingfishers Sylvia but I'm not as kind as you as far as earwigs go. I think Bill Oddie talks too much but the programme is excellent.

No Marieann, I don't much like earwigs either, it's just the thought of their tiny body carrying 50 baby earwigs during their pregnancy - definitely wouldn't want to come back as an earwig.

Yes I agree, Bill Oddie likes the sound of his own voice and it grates on me a bit too!

Smile Well, don't forget, that Bill Oddie was once a 'Goodie'! I think that explains a lot about him. Confused

I have a foster daughter living in Brae Vailron.

She keeps asking hubby and myself to go up there for a month to stay with her and her husband.

Beautiful spot where they live.

I used to have a penfriend years ago, she was from Lerwick, her family were all in the fishing industry. Lost touch through time.

Vailron wrote;"sorry, been off the last few days, came down with the winter vomiting bug that hit the ward last week". Question Question Question

Uh, Vailron, I thought it was supposed to be 'summer?' For goodness sake, we've just had 'Midsummers Day'. Shocked

I hope you're feeling a bit better Vailron. My great-nephews have some sort of a sickness germ at the moment. I feel so sorry for them they are so small.

Admin is right we are trying to hang on to summer for as long as possible. I hate the dark nights. I wouldn't last very long on Shetland would I?

I haven't heard of it before Vailron. My husband appears to be suffering from sickness today but he thinks he has caught it from the kids. He is at the moment stretched out on the settee suffering in silence. Very Happy

Strange you should say that Dee. I bought a bar each for Tony and me and the three year old on Tuesday and have been worrying because the child was sick about six times on Wednesday night.

It was a six piece bar of dairy milk with creme egg filling though and I can't find any mention of that being infected. His mother came home early from the school one day last week I think she has picked something up from the children she teaches and passed it round .......again.

norwalk virus, causes winter vomiting. this is severe vomiting and diarhoea. it is only found in one place, the human gut, so winter vomiting is initialy spread through poot hand hygiene, once established, i.e on a hospital ward, it is an airborne virus. and difficult to get rid of

Vailron I had no idea where the Shetland Isles where, geography never being one of my few strong points. I looked at the Uk weather map on the BBC website this morning and there was Lerwick.

I couldn't believe it I think you are further from the mainland than Newcastle is from Edinburgh. It said 15 degrees but rain, that temperature is about normal for now isn't it?

Marie, the furtherest North I've been is a town called Ellon, a few miles North of Aberdeen. Lerwick is a great deal further North than that. It does have a very different climate, right now, I wish I was there because they forcast over 90F tomorrow for the South East. I don't like it when it gets too hot. Confused
