My sons partner woke up screeming on Monday , saying that her neck was painful and she had numbness in her right arm and leg. Obviously he phoned me at 4.30 am and I advised him to get an ambulance. By ten oclock in the morning they had her onto the wards, although having done all sorts of tests, they cannot find out what it is and say there is nothing wrong with her!!!!!!!!  Today in their infinite wisdom, they sent her home, telling her to go to the doctors, which they did straight away, and guess what??? The doctor sent her straight back to hospital!!!!!!!  They've gone from suggesting that she has been in a fight to telling her it has all the symptoms of whiplash, to now telling her she could of had a stoke some time ago and that it could have something to do with that.  She drives buses for a living, and is scared they will take her licence away.  They gave her codeine and morphione yesterday and that made her go temporarily blind.   My point is... They sound like they are clutching at straws, and what could be potentially dangerous, is being made to sound trivial.  I would be frightened to be treated by these doctors.  None of them seem to know what they are talking about.  Now she hasn't got a bed, so is being kept in a waiting area, along with several other people, all with a variety of illnesses, and not only is frightened because she doesn't know what is wrong with her, but doesn't know how long she will be there or when she will get a bed!!!!!!

Well today she is in a Stroke/Heart ward, but some of the results show two nasty things.  Firstly they can see a clot on her heart, and as if that's not enough she has a slipped disc in her neck, which is supposed to be worse than in the back.  Her tests have been sent to Oxford, and they are awaiting the doctors there to give an opinion.  This obviously won't be until Monday.  She is on bedrest and not to move if she can help it.   They are more worried about the neck at the moment!!!

The poor Girl. Thank you for keeping us up to date Jan at what must be a very worrying time for you and your family.

I know that it is easy to say, but do try not to worry too much, they can work wonders these days, and, hopefully her age is in her favour too.
Smile

Well..... cutting a very long story short.  She is in Oxford hospital in the neurology and she may have the op. today, depending on what they say about her heart.  She has two slipped discs in her neck, one of which is pressing on her spinal cord!!!!!!!   Very nasty op.  but if she doesn't have it she will be paralysed for sure!!!!!Watch this space.

Thank you all so very much for your comments.  It has been the week of hell, but,  hopefully we are on the way to making it through.  Today, she underwent an operation which ended with the surgeon taking two discs out and replacing them with what they call cages.   There was no clot, and I don't know where she got that from.   She is being very dramatic but that is how she is.  She over exagerates most things!!!!! She's not being very co-operative to the nurses, but hopefully she will get better and this will be the end of it.  She doesn't look like she will be driving a bus again, but with the determination she has, I'm not so sure.  Thanks again. xx

Bus Drivers are very stubborn people, Janowl.

Fancy taking a little bet on the side that within three months she will be up and behind that bus steering=wheel again?
Well lets hope that her op sorts her problem out Janowl, I suppose a bus for her wedding is ok at least all the guests can ride in it as well  Smile
I think she is proving to be a handful.  Won't do what she has been asked for the nurses and when the surgeon speaks she does what he wants.  He asked her to press as hard as she could with her foot on his hand and she did it.  A little later the nurse asked the same and she said she couldn't do it!!!!!!    She also keeps getting blindness for a split second and then it leaves her blurred, but they say it is where the disc was on the spinal cord and it may get better.  But all in all I think she is expecting too much too soon!!!!!  If she does as she's told she may be out on Wednesday!!!!

Mdam came home today.  She was seeing an eye specialist and the ambulance that was to bring her home came and went, so they sent her 70 miles in a taxi!!!!   It turns out that she wasn't going blind at all, and it was just blurred vision?????  Which is a reaction to the morphine she was given apparently???!!!
