FARMERS could boost their popularity by following the example of counterparts in a drought-stricken Indian state. They tried to appease the gods by getting their unmarried daughters to plough the fields naked. The girls chanted ancient hymns and vowed to continue communing with nature until the rains came. Pity that in Britain the rain never stops. Laughing
