TRANSPORT chiefs have withdrawn two registration numbers from an auction in case they offend gay people.

The number plates F4 GOT and D1 KES were among 1,600 to be auctioned off this week.

But they were withdrawn at the last minute after objections from the gay rights charity Stonewall.

F4GOT and D1KES were expected to fetch £900 at the auction on Wednesday.

But a Stonewall spokesman said: “It is regrettable that personalised number plates that could clearly cause offence were made available.”

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency in Swansea yesterday confirmed the two plates had been dropped from the auction in Worcester due to “the clear potential offence they may cause”.

But surely the people who would want to buy & display them would be
"Faggots" or "Dikes".If they aren't offended by them why should anyone else? Confused

Good point, Blue. As a "Dyke" myself, I would have jumped at the chance to display that plate on my car!!!!

No problem with it whatsoever!!!!

After providing us with two beautiful grandchildren, our daughter decided she preferred the company of other women. Her and her friends have wonderful senses of humour,if they had the money they'd also have jumped at the chance!Very Happy
I really can't understand why organisations take it on themselves to be offended on behalf of others.

I['m afraid it's the "nanny state" gone mad again ! Evil or Very Mad  I mean, after all said and done, there would be 1 Faggot and 1 Dykes number plate in the whole of the UK for crying out loud ! In a nation of over 26 million vehicles, how many folk are going to spot those 2 and complain  ???
It beggars belief ! If this government put as much effort into running the country as it does in raising stupid namby-pamby laws, we wouldn't be in the state we are currently in !!!!!
