I've tried to put these pictures on three times I hope this is successful.

We spent a few days at Seahouses earlier in the month so that Tony could go on the all day trip to the islands. I wasn't mobile enough to go this time.

The Shags

Blackheaded Gull it's a lovely chocolate brown colour

Guillemots?

The Terns they were very aggresive.

Common gull

The Puffins beautiful, inquisitive and placid.

Thank you for looking the puffins are wonderful. The numbers returning to the islands every year have reduced considerably. The wardens (the National Trust employees) were interviewed on local tv and they are going to stick tiny GPS systems to the backs of some of them to find out where they are going after they have bred at the Farne Islands.

They say it will be the equivalent of us carrying a haversack. I feel so sorry about it I'm sure there won't be any problem from the birds when they stick it on but I still wish they weren't doing it.

When I was stopping over with my friend in Northumberland last month, we spoke about the Farne Islands, she said that even on a "calm" Summers day, the sea is usually pretty rough around the Islands, and she had been once before and was very seasick!

So, if I wanted to go, I would have had to go on the boat on my own.

Now I don't mind rough seas...after all I returned from Ireland in a force seven gale, and I throughly enjoyed it and wasn't ill....unlike most of my fellow passengers!!!!!

So, a visit to the Farne Islands is booked in for Next Year!!!!!
Very Happy

You won't regret it, Sandie. If you can get there for the main breeding season it's wonderful.

Thanks, Dora, Tony took them but on the whole the birds aren't afraid of people and just pose. The puffins are special though because they are so gentle and inquisitive.
