Has anyone else noticed a peculiar quirk of the British Meteorological Office weather forecasts? When it's cold, the minimum and maximum temperatures are quoted in Celsius, yet as soon as it warms up, it suddenly changes to Fahrenheit!

Hi, Sheriff, welcome to Silversurfers Forum. I suppose it's because most of us still think in terms of Farenheit when we look at our thermometers.

I also still think in pounds and ounces, feet and inches, and yards and miles. To my way of thinking, any other 'foriegn' measurements that have been gradually forced on us over the past few years, are simply not 'British'.

The day they change the road signs into kilometers instead of miles, I think my driving days will be over!

For instance, today it was really hot, over 90degrees, I bought 3 gallons of petrol, and drove almost 51 miles!
(The only thing I didn't do was to buy 5lb of potatoes!) Laughing

I still measure in Feet & Inches, my son only understands Metric! Rolling Eyes
I keep fuel records for our vehicles, to work out miles per gallon, not litres per 100 k. Isn't it strange that distances on our roads are measured in miles, but countdown markers on motorways, etc. are measured in metres. Only in the UK!!

Welcome to the forum Sheriff. I have got as far as realising one metre is obout one yard and three inches. I still can't think in metres though I have to change them to yards.

I must admit I very seldom check the weather forecast. Has it been reasonably cool in Scotland today?

really nice weather her so far, we have had the odd bad day, but on the whole this must be the best summer for several years now with temperatures up in the high teens and low 20's

Very Happy Hi Vailron, it's a lot 'fresher' here today, around 23 degrees, sunny, but the air feels cooler, less humid than we've had recently.

I always look at your area now when I watch the weather forecasts on t.v.
and it's usually very much of a contrast compared with our weather. Very Happy

i take it you are all enjoying the 30 deg + temps, while here it is a balmy 14 deg and thick fog, in fact there have ben no flights in or out of shetland for the last 2 days cause of the thick fog.

Sad Hi Vailron, no, speaking for myself, I can't say I'm particularly enjoying these temps. 14 degrees would suit me far better, (without the fog, though).

Today when I checked my thermometer on my balcony it was reading 92F(in the shade)
this is two degrees COOLER than yesterday. So why does today feel even hotter? Strange. Confused

I'm the opposite I love it. We have a very stiff, fresh breeze this afternoon and if you are out of the sun it is lovely and cool.

Result I am sitting here struggling to stay awake. Very Happy

Laughing I'm sitting here just wearing a thin t shirt and pants, the balcony door is wide open, it's 11.15p.m. the thermometer in my entrance hall reads 86F, the one on the patio reads 86F, I'm tired, but I just don't fancy a hot restless night either in bed or on it.
We had a heavy shower of rain earlier this evening, but it didn't last long enough and as fast as the rain hit the ground it dried up.
